Leave a gift in your Will

A gift in your Will is our protection on the water
Did you know that gifts in Wills funds help provide Marine Rescue NSW volunteers with everything they need to save lives on the water and return tens of thousands of people safely home to their loved ones.

“The generosity of a bequest to Marine Rescue Narooma has made a huge difference to our operations and the work of our volunteers. This gift has allowed essential radio room upgrades, giving vital, reliable communications to boaters who need help. The funds will also allow us to extend and improve our docking facilities, helping us respond faster to keep people safe on the water.”
From the bottom of our hearts, we are deeply grateful.

Mitch and Taylor’s generous gift for the future
“Marine Rescue Woolgoolga has been more than just a unit to us. It’s family. This unit isn’t just about our local coastline; it’s a broader community that supports each other, our gift will help to continue our mission of saving lives on water
We’ve chosen to leave a gift in our Will to Marine Rescue Woolgoolga so that the lifesaving mission continues long after we’re gone. Our bequest will help fund essential equipment, ongoing training, and the maintenance of facilities so fellow volunteers can carry on helping their mates and neighbours. It’s our way of ensuring that the crew who come after us have a solid foundation to save lives, to support volunteers, and to give back to the community we love.
We’ve volunteered here for a combined 16 years, weathering long nights and tough conditions side by side with people who’ve become friends and mentors. We’ve taken up Safewill Free Will to ensure our wishes are clearly documented for Marine Rescue Woolgoolga and our wider community”

A lifesaving story
Three young boys found themselves stranded after winds swept them away from the safety of the shore. While they huddled together to stay warm, a crew of dedicated Marine Rescue NSW volunteers powered across the water to save them.
On shore, mother Maraea, was overcome with relief as she watched the rescue vessel return with her sons safe and sound.
I’m just so grateful that they’re back on land and that they all stayed together. I’m really grateful for your crew for getting there, rescuing them and bringing them back to us safely.”

How to include a gift in your Will

There are many ways you can leave a gift:

Residual – this is a gift of the remainder of your estate, or a share of the residue, once other specific gifts and expenses have been taken care of you

Percentage – this is a gift of a specific percentage of your estate, allowing your gift to maximise as your estate matures

Estate – this is a gift of an exact amount from your estate

Assets – this is a gift of an item/s you own – property, cars, shares, jewellery and other valuables

3. Write or update your Will

Your Will is an important document that must be properly prepared and executed. A bit of preparation will save you time, money and help you decide if you need to use a solicitor or if you can do it yourself.

Use a Solicitor

It’s easy to include a gift in your Will – legally known as a ‘bequest’. All your solicitor needs is our ABN 98 138 078 092 and registered name – Volunteer Marine Rescue NSW. Even a small share of what’s left after you have looked after your loved ones will help our volunteers continue to save lives on the water.

Speak with your solicitor to include a clause which would allow your gift to still be valid if Marine Rescue NSW had a name change or change in organisation. This can happen sometimes if your Will is not administered for many years.

4. Let us know about your gift
