Kayakers rescued

Two kayakers have been rescued in a major air and sea search operation launched after the pair was blown out to sea off the southern Sydney coastline.

The two kayakers set out from Boat Harbour at the northern end of the Cronulla beach but were pushed 5nm offshore by the wind, swell and tide.

Two crews from Marine Rescue Botany Port Hacking, on board Port Hacking 30 and Botany 30, began searching in rough seas with a 2-3m southerly swell and 20 knot winds, along with a Marine Area Command – NSW Police Force vessel.

The kayakers were spotted clinging to their upturned hull by the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter and taken on board the Police vessel to be transported back to shore.

A great result, again demonstrating the seamless operations of our emergency services working together to save lives.
