Marine Rescue Jervis Bay Watch Officer Harold Plumb awarded Unit Life Membership

Marine Rescue Jervis Bay (MRJB) recognised the invaluable contribution by Harold Plumb to the Unit’s operations and vessel maintenance programme when he was awarded a Unit Life Membership at the 2024 MRJB AGM in July.

After retiring from small business, Harold joined MRJB in August 2011 at the invitation of unit members who recognised his valuable and relevant skillset. A licensed petrol and diesel mechanic with an electrical certification, Harold has been instrumental in the Unit’s vessel and equipment maintenance programme for almost 13 years. Harold holds MR Watch Officer and MR Crew ratings, and has been involved in two Mayday incidents. Notably, Harold has been awarded the Commissioner’s Citation Bar in 2021 for his meritorious service in the 2016 rescue of 25 Australian Defence Force personnel, in addition to a Unit Commander’s Citation in 2016 for his pioneering work in designing and building a fuel trailer for refuelling rescue vessels, which has since been adopted by other MR Units.

Harold will continue to assist the incoming MRJB Maintenance Officer Kevin Hill as required, following a recent changing of the guard at the unit. The MRJB Unit Life Membership was awarded to Harold in gratitude for his tireless work ethic over the past 13 years.
