National Water Safety Day
Today is National Water Safety Day, a time to think about safety in and on the water.
Last year 14 people died in boating accidents in NSW. You can help reduce this statistic by staying safe out on the water.
Our top safety tips are:
– Always wear a lifejacket and ennsure everyone on board, even the dog, have theirs on too
– Carry the right safety gear including EPIRB, V-sheet, first aid kit, marine radio and flares + know how to use them and ensure they are in date
– follow the boating rules. Learn more here: https://www.nsw.gov.au/…/2021-03/boating-handbook.pdf
– Check the weather before heading out and regularly throughout the day and return home before bad weather is forecast
– Always Log On with your local Marine Rescue NSW base on VHF Channel 16 or using the Marine Rescue app
