In my letter to members of 15 April 2011 I noted the intention of MR to move to retaining a professional IT consultant. In that letter I said:  “communications role ... is currently well served by experienced volunteers”
It has been suggested to me by John Finn, the former chair of the IT committee that: “given the context of the letter, namely a discussion about a combined IT and Communications position, your statement implies very strongly that volunteers have failed to meet the IT needs of the organisation. This reflects on all members of the IT committee but largely on me as chair of that committee and nominal CIO of MRNSW.
I want to make clear to all members that no reflection on Mr Finn or on any member of the committee of the kind suggested was intended by the letter.

IT has been and remains a persistent problem within MR and it was that fact, not any dissatisfaction with the performance of Mr Finn or the committee which led to the Board’s decision to engage a paid consultant. There is only so much time which can be demanded of a volunteer, and only a full time IT expert will be able in the Board’s opinion to devote the time necessary to resolve the issues we face. I, as Chair, and the Board wish to acknowledge the time effort and expertise which Mr Finn and the committee have brought to the task of effecting a functioning IT system for MR. we now need a full time IT manager to take the system to the next stage. We thank Mr Finn for his past services and acknowledge his undoubted skill and expertise.
