Spending time on the ports and waterways is a favourite pastime of many in New South Wales. While recognising the enjoyment that the water gives to us, we must also recognise that there is a serious side to it also. Marine rescue volunteers often risk their lives to keep people out of harm’s way. The community acknowledges their commitment and thanks them for their hard work.
The unification of the three volunteer marine rescue groups into Marine Rescue NSW is an important measure in ensuring that our ports and waterways are as safe as possible. While it has been a long process the support shown by the community thus far, bodes well for Marine Rescue NSW’s future.
The Marine Area Command and the NSW Police Force stand ready to cooperate with Marine Rescue NSW to keep our ports and waterways safe. I congratulate members past, present and future on their commitment and thank them for their service. I trust that Marine Rescue will be a strong organisation servicing the waterways of New South Wales for many years to come.
Yours sincerely,
