  • A MAN has had a lucky escape after his small tinnie capsized in extreme surf at Tuross Head on Monday morning.

The boat overturned just before 9am and emergency services were called.

The Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter was on the scene first and conducted a search of the area and located the male and his boat on the shore on the southern side of the lake entrance.

A short time later A Rescue Watercraft from Broulee, Moruya lifesavers and Tuross Marine Rescue were on the water and they confirmed the man was safe and well.

Marine Rescue NSW volunteers

Interested in becoming a volunteer? Join up today!

If you come on board as a member of Marine Rescue NSW, you’ll join more than 3000 professionally trained volunteers who are committed to saving lives on the water.

You’ll be part of a growing, vibrant organisation providing vital safety services to the NSW boating community.

Our members come from all walks of life and there’s a job for almost everyone at their local unit, whether it’s crewing an offshore search and rescue vessel or maintaining radio communications at the base.

Members must be aged 16 years or older. If you already have some boating skills, that’s great. If not, we can teach you everything you’ll need to know from the water up, including getting your NSW Maritime Boating Licence, First Aid training and your Marine Radio Operators Certificate of Proficiency.

Volunteers

We’re always on the lookout for people from a range of backgrounds who have valuable technical, practical, administrative or life skills to contribute to the smooth and efficient operation of a unit, such as accounting, engineering, electrical, plumbing, marketing, teaching or communications knowledge.

Marine Rescue NSW occupies a position of great trust in the NSW community. For this reason, all applicants are required to undergo a National Criminal History Record Check (CrimTrac) before they are offered membership. The existence of a criminal record will not necessarily disqualify you from membership. The forms will be provided to you at your local Unit when you apply to become a Provisional Member.

We look forward to welcoming you aboard!
