  • Members vote YES for new Constitution
  • August 20, 2012

Members of Marine Rescue NSW have voted overwhelmingly in favour of a new company constitution.

The new constitution was adopted at an Extraordinary General Meeting held in Sydney on Saturday, August 18.

A total of 772 members voted on the new document, with 660 in favour, 87 against, 8 abstaining and 17 invalid.

Chairman of the Board of Directors Jim Glissan welcomed the members’ agreement to the reform.

“This indicates the members’ general satisfaction with the way in which the company is being managed,” he said.

Mr Glissan said a number of shortcomings in the previous constitution, which had been drafted to meet the requirements of combining three separate organisations, had presented practical, operational and even legal difficulties for the company.

The new document had been carefully drafted to guide the company into the future, while still remaining proud of its history.

Mr Glissan thanked the Constitutional Review Committee, comprised of Directors and senior members of MRNSW, which had set the framework for the new constitution, and the Allygroup, which had drafted the new document.

He also thanked the Returning Officer, MR Port Jackson Unit Commander David Hand, and members of the Port Jackson unit for their assistance with this responsibility.

The new constitution is now available on the MRNSW website (see Constitution on the About Us tab), as well as on the members-only Gbase.

New draft rules also will be placed on Gbase. The Board has established a short-term committee to review the draft rules and determine whether any further refinements are needed.
