  • MRNSW Volunteer Education Scholarship winners announced
  • August 08, 2012

Marine Rescue NSW Commissioner Stacey Tannos today congratulated the winners of the Marine Rescue NSW Volunteer Education Scholarship.

The winners are:  Gregory Atkinson (Jervis Bay), David Barker (MR Newcastle), Anthony Breen (MR Forster-Tuncurry), Geoffrey Hawes (Central Coast), Darren Howes (MR Shoalhaven), Andrew Topp (MR Terrey Hills) and Shea Wicks (MR Central Coast).

The scholarship, announced during National Volunteer Week in May, is intended to help the organisation’s members to undertake professional development to assist them in their volunteering roles.

The successful applicants have received funding towards the cost of undertaking courses in the use of MYOB, computing and a Training and Assessment Certificate IV.

“Building our volunteers’ skills and expertise will help ensure that we have the capability to continue providing our lifesaving services to the boating community in the future,” Commissioner Tannos said.

“The field of applicants for scholarship funding was very competitive, with a number of high-quality applications received, demonstrating our members’ commitment to continuous learning.”

The Commissioner thanked all applicants for their commitment to Marine Rescue.

“Everyone leads busy lives in this day and age and the applicants’ willingness to devote the time and effort needed to undertake further education to benefit their units and our organisation as a whole is commendable,” he said.
